Space Hotel Online

So here's the deal. Space Hotel is now available online, for free. I would love it if some of you would take a half hour out of your day and take a look at it.

About 2 years of my life went in to this thing, and we basically called in all the favours we had, to pull off an 80s period piece set in space for almost no money. I think we did a pretty good job. Thank you to everyone who lent their support in every imaginable way. I can't possibly write that list here, because it's nearly everyone I know.

It didn't get a huge run at festivals because, in all honesty, it's a tough film to program. It's really long for a short film, it's too weird to be mainstream, and it's not as weird as some of the really weird stuff out there. But at the end of the day, successes and failures taken in to account, we made EXACTLY the film we set out to make.

If you enjoy it, tell a friend. That's the only way anyone will ever see it. And if you don't like it, and just want to freak out an enemy, show them.

Let me know what you think!

Small update

The new season of Week Thus Far started up last week. We're still shooting every Monday night at the King's Head, so come on down and check out a live taping.

Also, next week on October 1st at Noon, Space Hotel will be made available online for free! So if you haven't had a chance to check it out, now is your chance.

Gimli Film Festival

Good news! The Gimli Film Festival is taking place at the end of July, and I'm involved!

The Ringer, which was written by Tim Gray, directed by yours truly and originally produced for The Week Thus Far will be screened as part of the Manitoba Short Films program. And even better, there will be an award of $1000 for the audience choice of best film.

The screening takes place Friday, July 25th at 2:00 pm at the Gimli Theatre. If you're in cottage country, come see some great local talent on display. We are in great company.

Also! My proposal for The 90s was selected as a finalist for the Emerging Filmmaker Competition. So on July 24th I have to get up in front of an audience and panel of judges to pitch my film in the hopes of winning $10,000 to make it! Wish me luck!

The Heist

This one's a little bit late. I directed and edited this longer sketch for Week Thus Far a couple of weeks ago. The script was written by Michael Blomquist and it stars Tim Gray, Andy Noble and Dana Smith.

#worldstoughestjob

Yesterday we at The Week Thus Far decided to jump on the viral video bandwagon and shoot a parody of the #worldstoughestjob video. With a brilliant script by Michael Blomquist, I shot and edited this thing all in one night. Share it up!

Hey gang! It was a big week. The show for Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba at the Pantages Playhouse went amazingly well on Saturday night. We may have over-delivered with a bit of a long show, but it really seemed like everyone enjoyed it. Or they were just being polite. Either way, good times! It should be online soon at the Week Thus Far YouTube channel.

Speaking of being online, here is the St. Patrick's Day special that we premiered at the King's Head last night. Continuing our trend of re-appropriating 90s movie titles, this one is called "Dude, Where's My Craig?"

It was a real blast to shoot and put together. I'm incredibly proud of how this turned out. It definitely has a bit more of my sensibility in terms of weirdness. This season is really turning out to be a great one, and that's a testament to everyone involved really stepping up their game and delivering at the top of their ability.

It's a big week for The Week Thus Far! This Saturday night we are doing a supersized show at the Pantages Playhouse s a fundraiser for Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba. The doors open at 7:30 pm and tickets are $20. Take a look at the Facebook Event.

As a result of this show, we've been getting a lot of publicity this week. We've got articles in:

The Winnipeg Sun

The Winnipeg Free Press

The Uniter

The Projector

As well as being featured on a number of radio stations.

In addition to this huge show, we've also finished post-production on Dude, Where's My Craig? The newest half hour pre-tape special for St. Patrick's Day. It should be airing on ShawTV this week, and we're having a premiere screening on Monday, March 24th at The King's Head Pub. After Monday it will also be available online.

Holy moly, how the time has flown. I haven't had anything to communicate while The Week Thus Far has been on a hiatus, hence the lack of updates.

Well that's about to change!

We're back to work on the seventh season, and it's started with a bang! Take a look at the first sketch of the season.

I wrote, directed, shot and edited this sketch. Ryan Ash did the FX shot and designed the animated Game of Thrones style logo.

Because we had a bit more time before the season began, I was able to do more post-production work. I'm still learning a lot, but I did some audio processing and colour correction. It's a little rough around the edges, but over all I'm very pleased with how this turned out.

Right now I'm knee-deep in editing the Week Thus Far St. Patrick's day special. It will be a full pre-taped episode in the same style as last year's Halloweend special I Know What You Did Last Season. It's an incredibly weird episode and is really taking the show in a new direction. Stay tuned!

The newest sketch I directed and edited for The Week Thus Far is online! Take a look folks.

The season is wrapping up now, so I won't be doing any new ones until the spring. It'll be nice to have a break and recharge the batteries. Also, I'm working on some other projects to get up and running next year. So stay tuned for that!

In other news, The Uniter held a poll for Winnipeg's best... things? In any case, two of my things placed on the list! We didn't win either category, but Space Hotel got second best film, and Comedy Plus Time Equals Tragedy tied for third best theatrical production. So thanks to everyone who voted!

Nov 16, 2013

Ok gang, here's a 30 minute short film that serves as The Week Thus Far's Halloween special for 2013.

I shot, directed and edited this over a hectic couple of weeks in October. We went from having no script to showing the finished product to an audience in under 3 weeks. Ryan Ash and Tim Gray put together a great script, and the rest of the gang really turned out some hilarious performances. Ryan did all of the visual effects in the thing, and Craig Ward put together the opening credit sequence.

As insane as the timeline was, this was an incredible learning experience for me. I didn't have time to over think anything, and basically had to improvise the direction of a film. In the future I'd like a bit more time, but I'm incredibly proud of how this thing turned out.

Let me know what you think!

Oct 3, 2013

Hey friends! This is a sketch I directed and edited last weekend for this weeks episode of Week Thus Far. Tim Gray wrote and starred in it, and Ryan Ash starred as well. It was a hell of a lot of fun and turned out pretty close to exactly how I imagined it. I'd love it if you gave it a watch!

I also want to remind you that Space Hotel will be playing in the Short Film Competition at Reel Pride Winnipeg on Wednesday, October 16th. There is a juried award as well as an audience choice award, so I would really love it if some people could come out and support the film.

In other Space Hotel news, it is programmed as an Official Online Selection at the Minneapolis Underground Film Festival. The festival is this weekend so it should be available to view streaming on their website. Again, you can vote for it so do me a favour and vote!

The screening takes place at the Gas Station Arts Centre on Wednesday, October 16th at 7pm. Tickets are $10 and available at the theatre. Visit http://reelpride.org/ for more information.

We are three episodes in to the current season of Week Thus Far and it is a whole hell of a lot of fun! Check out the newest episode and prepare to laugh. And please, come on out to the King's Head Pub every Monday night at 8pm and be a part of the studio audience.

Starting this season I am a writer on Week Thus Far on ShawTV. I've known a lot of the other writers for a while and I'm pretty darn excited to do something new and different.

The first episode shoots on Monday, September 9th at the King's Head. You should come check it out.

I'll have some Space Hotel news very soon, I promise! Just a hint, you'll probably be able to watch it for a short period in October. Keep your eyes peeled.

Aug 7, 2013

It is August, and that means the fun is over.

No more putting on a show and partying every day. Back to working full-time and paying off the debt that resulted from taking time off to put on that show.

I just want to sincerely thank everyone who came to check out Comedy Plus Time Equals Tragedy and Space Hotel. I had a great time seeing audiences react to both of them, and it was nice to feedback. Special thanks to Chantel Marostica, Going Greene and BUNNY for performing at the Space Hotel premiere. You guys really made it a fantastic night.

Hopefully I'll have news regarding Space Hotel playing at film festivals soon. If not, then fuck those festivals. And fuck me. And fuck.

The Fringe is half way over!

The good news is there's still a couple chances to See Comedy Plus Time Equals Tragedy. We received lovely 4 Star Reviews from both the CBC and the Winnipeg Free Press.

Also next week is the World Premiere of Space Hotel! Get your tickets in advance either from me, or online at http://www.parktheatervideo.com/ticket-break/

There's two bands, Going Greene and Bunny opening the show and then a stand-up set from Chantel Marostica. All this before a half hour movie, and it's only 5 bucks! What the hell are you waiting for?

Welcome to the place on the internet where I put all my stuff.

You can find all of the films I've done under the aptly titled Film tab. That includes my 76 minute long debut feature Ebby House if you are so inclined to spend over an hour and fifteen minutes watching my bullshit.

I'll be sporadically posting updates about the future of Space Hotel over the coming weeks/months.

Also, be sure to take a look at the Theatre tab and see the poster for the play I'm directing at this summer's Winnipeg Fringe Festival. It's called Comedy Plus Time Equals Tragedy, and I can modestly state that it is a god damn masterpiece.

Enjoy! Or don't. Whatever.
